Welcome to Slightly Altered!

This is a weird little space to talk about the things that have CHANGED LIVES.

Well, mostly my own life. And it might sound dramatic to put it in terms of life-changing when I’m talking about the latest anime or book that I’ve partaken of, but I am a person that heavily defines my person based on the art and literature I consume. It’s such a big part of my life and enjoyment of being alive!

This definitely started when I was a kid and my favorite thing to do was read. The GiverA Series of Unfortunate Events, Narnia, so many books as a kid that I really believe helped me not only in childhood but also grow into the semi-functioning adult that I am now.

And then I think about little 14-year-old Crystal who watched every Studio Ghibli film because nothing I had ever seen ever made me feel the way those movies had at that point. Howl’s Moving Castle is still my go to whenever I need a little whimsy in my life. Or the first time I watched Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood which I absolutely devoured and wish I could watch for the first time all over again and would willingly name my child Alphonse if I could.

I feel defined by these things in my youth, but also that they started me on a path of such appreciation for media. And so I wanted to create a place to more fully digest these things and share them with hopefully others that will like them too.

I also felt Slightly Altered was a more apt description because not everything is groundbreaking for me, but sometimes it’s an incremental shift. It’s not always good and sometimes I’m like this is a shift I would like to return promptly, but that makes life interesting too.

And lastly, I wanted to share some things that we go through as humans. Because our experiences also have a lasting impact on us, the big and the small. So sometimes there will be a personal storytime with yours truly.

I’m so happy you’re here & I hope you’ll be willing to share your Slightly Altered experiences, too!

About Crystal

Crystal went to school for writing, completely abandoned it for a Corporate Career and MBA because of fear-inducing capitalism thoughts. She returns to her roots of reading and writing and watching an ungodly amount of TV and movies because that’s what makes her feel like she’s alive. She lives in the PNW with her husband and a 10-lb really cute rat-dog.
